iCOM

Real-time data exchange between EDCi devices

Product description

The iCOM is an expansion module for the EDCi product range that enables bidirectional real-time data exchange between two EDCi devices. Sensor and status information are transmitted within a single system clock cycle at system rates ranging from 1 kHz to 10 kHz.


Communication is carried out via a serial interface with a data rate of 8 Mbit/s. In each direction, four sensor channels (32-bit each) as well as 48 digital I/Os are available via the serial protocol.


Typical application areas include:

  • Sensor channel expansion: Transmission of up to four additional sensor values from a second EDCi device – for example signals from extensometers, strain gauges, or incremental encoders.
  • Center position control: In dual-axis testing machines, the iCOM enables compensation of positional deviations by exchanging position information between both EDCi devices, allowing the test specimen to be kept precisely centered even in the presence of structural machine inaccuracies.
  • Additional multi-axis control applications: The iCOM can also be used to solve other multi-axis control engineering challenges, such as biaxial testing applications. Please contact us for more information.

 

A connection cable (0.7 m length) for linking two iCOM modules is included in the scope of delivery. EDCi firmware version 9149.030 or later is required.
